How to Be There for Someone Grieving
Supporting someone through grief requires compassion, patience, and presence. You don't need to have all the answers — simply being there matters.
Helpful Things You Can Do
- Listen without judgment or trying to fix it
- Offer specific help (e.g., meals, rides, errands)
- Respect their grieving timeline
- Let them talk about the person they lost
- Check in regularly — even months later
What to Avoid
- Minimizing their loss or comparing it to others
- Saying “they’re in a better place” unless you're sure it's comforting
- Pushing someone to "move on"
